There's something kind of wonderful about creating your own project. Call it the substitute boyfriend. A photo gig, a film, an animation, a painting. It's like love- except it doesn't kiss you back. The sleepless nights spent thinking about it. The butterflies in your stomach on the first shoot day. That special feeling you get once it's all put together, or the whistles and claps from your proud friends when you screen the final version for the first time.
It's kind of hard to imagine a love substitute, but the art project certainly is the next best thing. It will replace the emotional excitement we inevitably yearn in life, however it probably won't replace the fireworks type of magic we find when we fall in love.
Luke Snellin's
short film Mixtape, encompasses that magic. Nominated for a BAFTA, Snellin embraces the wonderful innocence of young love which will inevitably warm your heart.
